Specific spinal adjustments are the hallmark of chiropractic care. An adjustment is a gentle force introduced into a joint that is intended to release it from its abnormal motion and/or position. Chiropractic adjusting emphasizes diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system. Using the most gentle and specific methods possible, we manipulate the spine and extremities to normalize range of motion and restore proper biomechanical function.

Rehabilitation is the process of regaining full function following injury and involves restoring strength, flexibility, endurance and power. It is achieved through various exercises and drills. Rehabilitation is as important as treatment following an injury but unfortunately is often overlooked. The aim of a rehabilitation program is to regain pre-injury levels in all aspects of physical fitness. A full rehabilitation and strengthening program is essential to ensure full recovery and to prevent re-injuries.

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization or Simply IASTM enables clinicians to efficiently locate, diagnose, and treat individuals with soft tissue dysfunction. The technique itself is said to be a modern evolution from Traditional Chinese Medicine called Gua Sha. However Gua Sha was not used to treat Musculoskeletal conditions but was traditionally applied along meridians to move the bad chi out through the skin. IASTM is a is a procedure that is rapidly growing in popularity due to its effectiveness and efficiency while remaining non-invasive,with its own indications and limitations.

Myofascial Release is a safe and effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. Trauma/injuries, repetitive motions, inflammatory responses, and/or surgical procedures create myofascial restrictions that can produce tensile pressures on pain-sensitive structures that do not show up in many of the standard tests (x-rays, myelograms, CAT scans, electromyography, etc.).

When RockTape is applied to the skin, it has a microscopic lifting effect underneath the skin and between the many layers. This allows the by-products created by inflammation to be removed more quickly. Research has shown that RockTape on skin can attenuate muscle fatigue. In rehab this is very important, not only for the parts of your body that are currently hurting, but also for the surrounding structures, as they help to compensate for muscles that are not working optimally. RockTape is applied as part of the treatment process and is an additional tool that helps alleviate pain and enhance the rate of healing.

Electrotherapy and local modalities are used to assist in pain reduction and the natural healing response via an increase in energy (electrical, sound, light, magnetic, temperature). Electrotherapy and local modalities have short-term benefits that can assist with the earlier introduction of other longer lasting techniques, such as manipulation, soft tissue therapy, and exercise. While many patients will feel the immediate benefits from electrotherapy, it is wise to think of these passive modalities similarly to pain relieving or anti-inflammatory medications. That is, electrotherapy and local modalities are methods of pain relief or inflammation reduction that provide short-term relief and stimulation, which allows you to continue moving and functioning as comfortably as possible until the cause of the problem is fixed.

Contemporary Medical Acupuncture and Functional Integrated Needling

Contemporary medical acupuncture and functional integrated needling blend traditional acupuncture with a scientific approach to provide an effective treatment for musculoskeletal injuries. They incorporate points along meridians as well as points targeting anatomical structures, to best address presenting symptoms and the underlying cause of musculoskeletal conditions. The benefits are decreased pain, improved mobility, and improved function.

Cupping Therapy

Cupping therapy utilizes suction to increase blood flow to the skin, fascia, and musculature to reduce pain and promote healing. It has been used for thousands of years in traditional Chinese, Egyptian, and Middle Eastern medicine for the treatment of several chronic conditions, including mechanical issues such as low back and neck pain, and arthritis. Utilizing cupping therapy to create space in the tissue layers for blood flow and oxygen is an effective adjunct to treatment.
